Tulsa Kickoff Recap
Last week, Pursuit sent 19 wrestlers down to World of Wrestling's Tulsa Kickoff Classic. Pursuit Ohio sent 14 wrestlers and Pursuit Minnesota sent 5 wrestlers. This tournament is known as one of the premier pre-season tournaments in the country. This year was the 28th annual Tulsa Kickoff Classic with some of the toughest wrestlers from the country toed the line in hopes to walk away holding the coveted trophy and cement their name in the Tulsa tradition.
In the 6U age division, we had 3 wrestlers competing. Ridge Jessop (MT), finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and a third place finish at 40 lbs. Jayden Writesel (OH) had a great weekend, losing in the semis, but battling back to finish True 2nd at 52 lbs. Sam Schifer (OH), also made the trip and competed hard.
In the 8U age division, Lincoln Foss (MN) and Rhett Jessop (MT) both finished the weekend with a 2-2 record, but both had a great showing and combined for 4 bonus point victories.
Moving to the 10U age division, we had Harper Wimmers (OH) finish with a 3-3 record and a 6th place finish in the Girls 65lb class. Gabriel Jasso (MN) dominated his way to a Tulsa Kickoff championship at 67 lbs, finishing with a 5-0 record (4 bonus point wins). Gabriel outscored his opponents 75-5 en route to his first place finish. Benny Ahedo (MN) fell in a heartbreaking 10-9 semifinal to the eventual Tulsa champ. Benny however, battled back to finish 4th at 80 lbs. Rykker Jessop (MT) fell in the round of 16 on the top side, won two matches on the backside before eventually finishing just short of a podium finish. Jack Schifer (OH) picked up a win in a highly contested battle, but finished the weekend 1-2. Also competing in the 10U division were Logan Simpkins (OH), Bob Gillies (OH), and Oscar Pederson (MN).
The 12U division had Clara Grigsby (OH) finishing 3rd in the Girls 135 lb class with a 4-2 record (second loss being in the True 2nd match). In the third place match, Clara avenged a loss to an opponent with an overtime victory! Eli Phillips (OH) also made the podium with a 6th place finish at 130 lbs. Bowen Gardner (OH) finished with a 3-2 record, losing a tightly contested 5-3 decision to the eventual 4th place finisher. Quinn Smith (OH) won his first two bouts before falling short in the quarter finals. Quinn’s losses came to the 3rd and 6th place finishers. Kamden Gallus (MN) picked up a win, but finished 1-2 overall for the weekend. Also competing in this division was Breccan Kellogg (OH).
